Trade Compliance Specialist

An international trading company based in the City of London seeks a Trade Compliance Specialist to join their team.

The Legal Department has direct responsibility for the legal and compliance functions in the region of Europe/Russia/NIS and provides supports to the other offices in the region.

Formal qualifications in trade compliance or customs practice are not necessarily required, but the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a wide knowledge of global import and export regulations.

As this is a new position, there is considerable scope for the right person to make a significant contribution to the development of the trade compliance structure of the company


Core Duties

• Provide expertise and guidance on import and export regulations around the world
• Identify improvements and develop procedures at regional level
• Design and perform risk assessments on current activities of European offices
• Lead development of trade compliance structure within the organisation
• Implement the developing global internal control policy initiatives
• Ensure compliance with global sanctions requirements
• Perform audits of current practice

Ideal candidate

• Ideally have a comprehensive knowledge of global trade compliance practice, customs regulations, export licencing procedures, valuation and classification
• Working knowledge of another European language – spoken & written form
• Experience of working in an international environment
• Experience of working in a Japanese business environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• To achieve this, candidates must be able to work independently and take leadership in establishing the structure
• Candidates must be able to work effectively in a global environment and communicate with, and give guidance, to employees at all levels across many different cultures
• The job will involve a certain amount of travel within Europe
