Small, international trading company based in central London and specialising in agricultural commodities including grains, seeds and nuts, seeks an Assistant Trader to join their team.
The role will provide support to the Senior Trader with their everyday activities, achieving growth targets, while able to work in a fast-paced office with a varied workload. To assist with sales and marketing and ensure the company is communicating clearly, pre and post sales, with all its customers and suppliers.

The ideal candidate would have experience in the grain and feed trade with international trading experience a bonus. The successful candidate will fill a key role in the trading team with very good prospects for progression. The successful candidate should adapt quickly in the assistant role and after six months, be in a position to accept an increase to their remit within a small and close-knit team. This would include responsibility for relationships with customers and suppliers, as well as responsibility for products and areas of the trading P&L. The starting salary is according to experience.

Core Tasks:
• Acquire good knowledge about the products the company trades
• Trading Assistant will be assigned to work closely with a Senior trader – they will be required to learn everything about the senior trader’s group of products to the point where cover can be provided
• Support Senior Trader day-to-day
• Learn and understand both customer and supplier requirements
• Negotiate purchases and sales
• Contract management - Entering contracts
• Liaise with customers to ensure service-delivery; always go the extra mile to deliver on promises
• Create new systems of working to suit individual customer needs
• Work closely with the Commercial transport manager/Junior trader to obtain and negotiate haulage rates for existing and upcoming business
• Help to find efficiencies/savings

Ideal Candidate
• Experience from a financial or commodity trading background would be important
• Experience in the grain and feed trade with international trading exposure
• Sales/Negotiation Skills
• Time management – prioritise most important roles and not be overwhelmed by large workloads
• Ability to cope with detailed work of this specialist commodity sector
• Organisational Skills
• Good knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• 2nd language a bonus but not essential
