International medical device and training service provider based in The Netherlands has a exciting opportunity for a new Senior BD / Sales Manager to join their small but growing operation.
The company provides up-to-date solutions for teachers and students in teaching and learning the craft of dentistry. Their pioneering product is a Virtual Reality Dental Trainer, and a full software suite to support efficient teaching, formative and summative students’ assessment and courses creation and management. The product is already used in more than 100 dental schools all around the world, from Amsterdam to Beijing via Quito, Philadelphia, or Sydney.


The Role

Under the guidance of the General Manager, the Business Development/Sales Manager, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals, maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions and defines long-term organizational strategic goals.
Main customers are dental universities and private dental training institutions. The business development/sales manager will initially focus on their Dental Trainer product, but in this role, you might also be involved in the development of the European market for other company products together with the Overseas Sales division, as well as developing their digital training offering.

Core Duties

New business development:

• Your primary role will be to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising, presenting webinars, providing demonstrations, driving our distributors network, attending fairs or other means of generating interest from potential clients, to create a robust pipeline of opportunities, to secure new orders and to increase business in Europe

• You will be planning persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with us and integrate the Dental Trainer as part of their curriculum

• You will be following your leads from inception to onboarding of the new customers

• You will be responsible to meet the European sales target in terms of number of units, revenue and profitability

Sales strategy development, sales planning and execution:

• Strategic planning is a key part of this role since it is the business manager’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming into the company

• This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors

• You will contribute to the development of our sales plan for the coming years and its execution in collaboration with the other business development manager, our distributors and the overseas sales division

Clients retention and growth:

• We have already a significant installed base in more than 100 universities around the World

• You will also be required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients, facilitating training and curriculum integration, listening to the feedback of customers and interface with our product development team

• In collaboration with our distributors, you will be nurturing the existing relationships with key customers to develop local ambassadors in the various European countries, helping to the development further of our user’s community

Ideal Candidate

• 7-10 years relevant sales or marketing experience selling directly and indirectly with distributors network in the dental or MedTech industry

• You bring a demonstrated ability to growth sales number significantly, even when confronted with long sales cycles by creating strategies to accelerate sales

• Experience selling to universities or in the dental education and understand the specificity of this type of business

• Familiar with the digital dental industry, you had exposure to medical & dental education business and its associated challenges, and you have an established network in the European dental industry

• Some experience IOS devices or high-tech capital equipment’s to universities would be highly beneficial

• Previous experience in selling software and setting up SaaS business would be great

• University degree or equivalent formal education in business or marketing would be welcomed

• Fluent in English and at least one other language such as German, French or Spanish

• You have a well-developed business acumen, you like bringing new ideas to contribute to our future strategy. You know how to listen to customers to understand underlying needs and interface with development teams.
• You have strong presentation skills, in face-to-face, videoconference or webinar setup, you are familiar with social and digital medium.
• You have a multi-cultural sensitivity with the ability to talk with academic people and highly educated customers, adapting your style to the local culture and usages.
• You have the ability to build strategic relationships with customers, partners, distributors and overseas sales, and colleagues

Expectations from the Hirer

• You should be able to strive in a small and growing business with all its advantages and its ambiguities

• As we are selling technology-based products and solutions, affinity for digital technology is important but no technical background necessary

• Even if you would not have dental business experience at the start, we will expect you to develop in-depth knowledge of the dental procedures, of the dental education market, and stay up to date with the evolution in the dental industry which might have an impact on the dental education (digitalization, changes in regulation, etc.).

• We expect you have a general knowledge and use of digital devices and tools, in particular you are familiar with Office suite, with video conferencing tools and using CRM (Salesforce.com).

• Once sanitary conditions allow for it, this is a job where we expect you to be available for traveling on regular occasion, think up to 50%, also occasionally on weekend since dental fairs happen on weekends as well. You would travel in Europe mainly, but you might also support fairs and overseas colleagues around the World. This is clearly not a “9 to 5” position, we expect commitment and flexibility from you, nevertheless we respect personal time and are very flexible in return.

• Our office is located close to Schiphol - Amsterdam Airport. Even if we would prefer you to be coming to the office, you could be located anywhere in Europe, within an easy commute to Amsterdam and to European customers.
