An exciting opportunity has arisen within a global trading house.
You will be involved in the establishment and development of plantation production for agricultural foods in Environmental, Social, Health and Safety Department in West Africa including establishing management system objectives and targets; internal and external reporting of ESHS performance metrics; communication of national and local regulatory requirements.
The position is responsible for developing site ISO/OHSAS1 certifications and assuring closure of audit findings on a timely basis.

The successful candidate will develop and deliver training for subordinate ESHS related personnel, manage interfaces with the public and governmental authorities.
Business level English and Japanese will be required for this role.

TYPE: Permanent, full-time

SALARY: USD 180-200K depending on experience


LOCATION: It is expected that you will need 2-3 years for the mission in West Africa, during which time you will be stationed in the country (or on the business trip basis).

Implementing E&S management systems, policies and procedures
Oversight of all environmental and social development personnel
Oversight of overall Corporate Social Responsibility
Development of reports to various stakeholders on Environmental, Social, and Biodiversity issues
Regularly monitor company’s compliance with investors’ E&S requirements and policies
Assessing gaps against investors’ E&S requirements/policies and identify opportunities for value addition
Aligns and develops compliance with procedure and requirements of Environmental ISO 14001 and quality system FSSC 22000 and other standard mandatory require to be used of the organization and participates actively as needed
Ensure that E&S rights are embedded into corporate policies, legal agreements, and third-party accountability
Preparation and dissemination of E&S training to organization
Continuous training and professional development of local ESHS personnel
Planning and budgeting for environmental and social development management
Development of community outreach programs and trainings on improved livelihoods and social development programs including the organization and promotion of programs/workshops to build and alert employees’ awareness
Liaises with Community Authorities and other public and private organizations on matters concerning community environment and social development
Assessment of community needs and development of intervention strategies to improve socio-economic conditions in project area
Prepares reports and notifies superior for improvement, if any unfavorable condition is found
Report problem with regards to the Food Safety Management System to Superior
Promotes cost reduction and established controls
Maintains and enforces safety & security rules and regulations and ensures an effective Accident Prevention Program of the department
Participates actively in the company’s Continuous Improvement Programs; and leads and directs activities related to improvements as needed
Liaise with local and foreign government, local and international NGOs and other organization for environmental and social development activities.
Contributes to our mission, producing high quality, healthy products to global customers
Performs other duties as assigned

Education: Master’s Degree in Environmental Management, Development Economics, Operational Health and Safety or related field
Experience: At least 5 year’s work experience in environmental, OHS, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan and Stakeholder Engagement Planning
Business level of English and Japanese

Strong communication skills, including report writing (use of PowerPoint and diagrams to present information in a concise format) and oral communication
Effective negotiation skills, including the ability to be persuasive as well as to listen and pragmatically identify when compromise is required

Familiar with international ESHS guidelines and references (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines, ILO Core Conventions);
Ability to effectively tackle industry and site-specific challenges associated to behavioural change, stakeholder engagement and system improvements; Experience in analysing and implementing E&S management systems for companies
