An international business from the Far East, with business activities focused on retail stores for luxury second hand goods, precious metals buying, general pawn broking, and boutiques financial services (cheque cashing, foreign exchange, and international transfers) are seeking an experienced COO from a smaller company, or boutique retail financial services background to join their small Central London team.

Reporting directly to the expat CEO, the role will manage the business in a general day-to-day capacity to ensure the development of a sustainable and profitable UK organisation. In particular, the COO will be responsible for helping to oversee the general management of retail branches, the head office, and overall business operations – including the CF11 function with the FCA.

LOCATION: Central London (SW1)
SALARY: £100-120K
TYPE: Permanent, full time

• Provides leadership and structure for the business and supports all head office functions, including HR, legal, property, health and safety and compliance
• Manages the branch network and stock distribution centre; with in-depth understanding of systems, ensuring compliance with company policies and objectives
• Works alongside the CFO and forms an effective team with the finance function
• Reports to the CEO on all key business matters and establishes excellent communication with the parent company overseas
• Develops, implements and delivers business operating plans and monitors success of these
• Builds a strong relationship with banks and investors and with key third party suppliers
• Develops in-depth knowledge of the business’s key contracts
• Builds a strong relationship with the FCA, and acts as an Approved Person for FCA purposes
• Supervises the property portfolio of the company. Ensures timely reporting of key issues regarding leases, renewals and maintenance
• In the relevant areas of responsibility, provides information to and answers ad-hoc requests from the Board and shareholders

• Proven track record working in a Senior Executive / COO role in a smaller, boutique, retail financial services business – NOT a major multinational
• Experience in a CF11 Approved Person role for FCA purposes
• Broad senior business management and operations background in a multi-site international business
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – particularly with multinational teams and expat senior managers; who may not speak English as their first language
• Effective coaching/mentoring skills; demonstrable ability to build, develop, and motivate effective teams
• Strong preference for a background in at least one of: luxury second hand goods, precious metals buying, general pawn broking, and financial services [cheque cashing, foreign exchange, and international transfers]
