You will take ownership of new product design initiatives, support enhancements to existing products and manufacturing drawings, and provide guidance to junior engineers.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in engineering principles, excellent communication skills, and at least 10 years’ experience in fibre optic connector or optic connector design.

Principal Design Engineer Main Responsibilities:
● Ability to apply advanced knowledge of engineering principles and take a concept design and make it reality
● Conduct thorough reviews of engineering designs, ensuring they meet company standards, industry regulations, and best practices.
● Work closely with design, development, and product teams to provide feedback and recommendations for improvements.
● Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
● Informs others proactively about developments or issues that affect projects, and their ability to meet commitments
● Design and develop new products while working with Legal department on patents and patent clearances.
● Generate alternative solutions to problems or processes
● Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the assigned individuals in the Engineering department including assigning responsibilities, tracking progress and evaluating work assigned
● Lead assigned projects and develop project plans, coordinating schedules and timelines within their team to ensure deliverables are met according to assigned schedule
● Responsible for teaching and mentoring others in the department their applied engineering knowledge and principles
● Travel with Sales and Product Managers as needed to provide design concepts
● Work with Supply Chain and develop samples and parts delivery schedule timelines.
● Prepare and present progress reports at meetings
● Keeping stakeholders informed about project developments, risks, and milestones to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
● Contributing to the organization’s intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent filings.
● Assist Engineering Manager with personnel decisions and performance reviews
Principal Design Engineer Ideal Candidate:
● Bachelor’s degree required (Science or Engineering major preferred)
● At least 10 years’ experience in fiber optics or optical connector design required
● 6+ years direct working experience in 3D CAD knowledge is required (Solidworks preferred)
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written – must interface successfully with other engineers, non-technical employees and with customers
● Plastics background a plus
● Capable of covering end-to-end development (design → prototyping → mass production)
● Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed
● Computer experience including all Microsoft Office software programs
