Vol.1 – Introducing the faces behind Centre People Appointments!

Recruitment isn’t just about matching CVs to job descriptions—it’s about people. Behind every successful placement is a dedicated consultant who works tirelessly to understand the needs, aspirations, and goals of both clients and candidates.

That’s why we’re launching a new series to give you a closer look at the people behind the placements – and we’re starting with our Assistant Manager, Mari Wade.

Briefly, how did you get started in recruitment?

“My first career in recruitment was in Japan. I joined a start-up recruitment agency because I used to work as a temp agency worker and I was interested in agency work and starting up a company. I was working as a recruitment consultant/business developer for 3 years there before I moved in the UK. I joined Centre People in 2014.”

What’s something your clients and candidates might be surprised to learn about you?

“I think I give off the impression that I’m very “majime”, very serious, so many candidates and clients might think this, but I think I’m quite friendly and very active to go out with colleagues, friends, and my son as well.”

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies or hidden talents?

“Most of my free time, I spend with my husband and son. Because I’m working full-time from Monday to Friday, I go out with my family almost every weekend for playdates, shopping, parties, seasonal events, etc. I also like baking when I have a free time at home, and my cheesecake is very very very popular. Every time, I’m asked for my recipe.”

Is there a moment from your career that you’re particularly proud of?

“It’s not a particular moment, but I am proud to be a part of how much CPA has grown over the last 10 years. Especially when our company overcame hardships such as covid, changing management, like that.  And now our team has very strong cohesion.”

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in recruitment over the years?

“The biggest change is work style. Especially after Covid, lots of companies offer hybrid work and lots of job seekers are focusing on work-life balance. Before Covid, compensation was the highest priority for job seekers, but currently work-life balance, flexible working arrangements, and skill development are popular for them.”

What’s a surprising fact about the recruitment industry that people outside might not realise?

“Some people might think that the work of a recruitment consultant is simple – for example, just sending CVs to companies and introduce them. However, our work is very wide and deep. We are constantly searching for the latest information on labour laws, immigration laws, visa, trends in the recruitment market, trends that job seekers are looking for in jobs, and other information besides recruitment.  We try to provide the latest information to clients and job seekers. There’s always a lot of information and work tasks, but it is very rewarding and very meaningful to have the opportunity to learn about various industries, jobs, and markets.”

Through these posts, you’ll get to know the stories, insights, and passions that drive our team, both in and out of the office.
